My article for school. Tell me what you think, yes it sucks.

Crime Rising in Saskatoon

In 2009, Maclean’s along with Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics collected data on the crime rates, from each of the provinces and territories of Canada. After months of research and hard work, they received the results. In 1st place, 100 being the best was Saskatoon of Saskatchewan. I’m 100th place was Caledon. After this, the town of Saskatoon has received the name of “The most dangerous city.” Saskatoon placed 4th for murder, 1st for robberies, 20th for breaking and entering, 21st for motor vehicle thefts, and 4th for aggravated assaults. Saskatoon has about 1106 violent crimes per one hundred thousand residents. Mayor Don Atchison says the statistics are “Out of date and misleading.” He says that all prospering cities have crime and it’s bound to happen. Many say the only reason Caledon has the lowest crime rate because it’s too cold to do anything. Saskatoon issued 200 extra police officers to roam the streets of the city. The residents of Saskatoon are too scared to leave their homes, because of the crime and violence outside. Many say the crime rate in Saskatoon is so high due to stress and poverty. In other words they’re saying that good people can turn bad. Even though the police force in Saskatoon has the second best clearance rate in the country, the crime doesn’t seem to stop. Katrine McKenzsie, the director of victim services says the crime is led by poverty, lack of education, and dysfunctional families. Many people came to this conclusion because 86% of attackers are linked to their victims, for family, friends, bosses, etc. Research shows us that women are mainly being targeted by attackers. “Women are still being mistreated even in this age and day” says Hermanson, a resident of Saskatoon. Small animals have also been killed in many areas of Saskatoon. People are disgusted by the hate crimes and violent acts taken by many residents. Saskatoon is trying to decline the crime rate starting discipline camps for young offenders, and issuing mini-helicopters with attached camera to get a better look of the city. The mayor assures this will bring the crime down and the streets of Saskatoon will be safe once again. The town of Saskatoon has held the title of “Most dangerous city” for three consecutive years, but the city seems to be doing the best they can to lower the crime rate.
